Dashlane
Security is critical in our work. Dashlane is our centralized password manager, helping us maintain strong security practices while keeping our workflows efficient.
What is Dashlane?
Section titled “What is Dashlane?”Dashlane is Terra’s password management tool. It’s where we securely store, share, and manage all passwords, API keys, and sensitive credentials needed for our projects and internal tools.
We use Dashlane to:
- Store passwords securely with enterprise-grade encryption
- Generate strong, unique passwords for every service
- Share credentials safely within teams without exposing passwords
- Maintain organized access to client projects and internal tools
- Enable secure authentication across all devices
- Keep a centralized audit trail of who has access to what
How to Get Started
Section titled “How to Get Started”01. Install Dashlane
Section titled “01. Install Dashlane”Download and install Dashlane on your devices:
- Browser Extension: Available for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge
- Desktop App: Available for macOS and Windows
- Mobile App: Available for iOS and Android
02. Set Up Your Account
Section titled “02. Set Up Your Account”- You’ll receive an invitation email to join Terra’s Dashlane workspace
- Create a strong Master Password — this is the only password you’ll need to remember
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for an extra layer of security
- Install the browser extension for seamless password autofill
How Dashlane Works

Section titled “Password Storage”- All passwords are encrypted using AES-256 encryption
- Encryption happens locally on your device before syncing to the cloud
- Even Dashlane cannot access your passwords — only you can decrypt them with your Master Password
Spaces
Section titled “Spaces”Dashlane organizes credentials into Spaces:
- Personal Space: Your private passwords and personal accounts
- Team Spaces: Shared credentials organized by project, client, or department
- Collections: Groups within spaces to organize credentials by category
Autofill and Login
Section titled “Autofill and Login”- Navigate to a website or app that requires login
- Dashlane automatically detects the login form
- Click the Dashlane icon to autofill your credentials
- Dashlane can also generate and save new passwords when creating accounts
Sharing Credentials
Section titled “Sharing Credentials”When sharing passwords within the team:

Use Dashlane’s Sharing Feature
- Never share passwords via Slack, email, or other messaging tools
- Use Dashlane’s built-in sharing to maintain encryption

Set Appropriate Permissions
- Limited Rights: User can view and use the password but cannot see or share it
- Full Rights: User can view, edit, and share the password with others

Share to Spaces
- Add credentials to the appropriate team space
- Ensure only relevant team members have access to each space

Revoke Access When Needed
- Remove users from spaces when they leave projects
- Change passwords if someone with full access leaves the company
Password Generator
Section titled “Password Generator”Dashlane includes a powerful password generator:
- Click the password field when creating a new account
- Dashlane automatically suggests a strong password
- Customize length and character types if needed (16+ characters recommended)
- Dashlane automatically saves the new password
Default Settings:
- Minimum 16 characters
- Includes uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
- Avoid ambiguous characters for better readability
Q: What if I forget my Master Password?
A: Dashlane cannot recover your Master Password. This is a security feature. Make sure to set up Emergency Access or write down your Master Password in a secure physical location.
Q: Can I use Dashlane for personal passwords too?
A: Yes! Your Personal Space is private and encrypted separately from team spaces. It’s encouraged to use Dashlane for all your passwords.
Q: What happens if Dashlane goes down?
A: The desktop and mobile apps work offline and sync when connectivity is restored. You always have access to your passwords locally.
Q: Should I save API keys and tokens in Dashlane?
A: Yes, Dashlane is perfect for storing API keys, tokens, SSH keys, and other sensitive credentials in the secure notes field.
Q: How do I handle client-provided passwords?
A: Always save them immediately in Dashlane and share the Dashlane entry with the team rather than forwarding the original email or message.
Good Dashlane Practices
Section titled “Good Dashlane Practices”- Never share your Master Password with anyone, including managers or IT
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication on your Dashlane account immediately
- Use the Password Generator for all new accounts — avoid creating passwords manually
- Store all work-related credentials in Dashlane, never in browsers or text files
- Share passwords only through Dashlane, never via Slack, email, or messages
- Use descriptive names and add relevant notes to make credentials easy to find
- Review your Password Health regularly and update weak or compromised passwords
- Organize credentials into appropriate Spaces for better team management
- Revoke access promptly when team members change projects or leave the company
- Never store credentials in code, config files, or version control — always use environment variables and Dashlane
- Log out from shared/public computers and never save passwords on devices you don’t own
- Report suspicious activity immediately if you suspect a credential has been compromised
- Keep Dashlane updated to benefit from the latest security features and patches
