Simple Project Workflow

The Simple Project Workflow is a beginner-friendly, guided introduction to how we build and ship projects at Terra. Instead of jumping directly into a real, multi-layered project — which can feel overwhelming when you’re new — this workflow walks you through a small, safe, structured mini-project where you’ll learn the foundations of how we collaborate, communicate, and build.

Think of it as your training ground: a lightweight tour of the tools, practices, and expectations that you’ll later apply in full-scale projects.

Real Terra projects involve many moving parts: multiple environments, cross-team communication, frontend and backend responsibilities, design handoff, deployment workflows, and much more. Without context, it’s easy to feel lost.

This workflow exists to:

  • Give you a clear, step-by-step introduction to how a project works from start to finish.
  • Help you understand where you fit within the team and what’s expected from your role.
  • Allow you to practice in a simple environment before touching production-level work.
  • Ensure you gain confidence and technical familiarity with our stack, tools, and processes.

By completing this workflow, you’ll build the foundational knowledge you’ll need to navigate future projects efficiently and independently.

Throughout this mini-project, you will:

  • Set up a project locally and understand our environments (local → dev → staging → production).
  • Understand the basics of how we structure WordPress projects using WP Engine.
  • Get a high-level overview of our frontend and backend pipelines.
  • Learn the “Dos and Don’ts” that help keep our workflow clean, predictable, and efficient.
  • Know exactly what’s expected from your role — whether you’re joining as a frontend or backend dev.

This is not a deep technical dive (you’ll get there, just not yet); it’s a superficial overview designed to make you feel oriented, not overwhelmed.

Because you need to understand these fundamentals 100% before joining any complex project.

Once you complete this workflow, you’ll be able to:

  • Navigate a Terra project without needing constant help.
  • Understand where each task belongs and who is responsible for what.
  • Communicate effectively inside the team.
  • Follow our dev standards with confidence.

In short: this workflow gives you the solid base you absolutely need before participating in full-scale, fast-moving Terra projects.
